The D4K-12SFP module is an industrial media module that has been designed and manufactured by Hirschmann to work with the DRAGON series Hirschmann rack mount backbone Ethernet switches within an industrial Ethernet network. This media module is sold separately from the backbone switches. The D4K-12SFP Ethernet media module is primarily used to provide a DRAGON backbone Ethernet switch with 12 additional Ethernet ports so that it can communicate with a larger number of devices than standard switches can on their own. All 12 of the Ethernet ports on the D4K-12SFP media module are SFP slots, and all 12 of them support Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet communication. If the D4K-12SFP media module breaks down or wears out, it can be serviced or replaced in the field.

The Hirschmann D4K-12SFP Ethernet media module for the DRAGON series backbone switches draws its power from the power supply that is located in the backbone switch’s backplane. This media module is easy to mount onto the backbone switch because of its simple plug-in connectors. When it operates with an SFP transceiver, the D4K-12SFP media module consumes approximately 25 Watts of power. This Ethernet media module weighs about 0.7 kilograms and it has compact dimensions of 220 x 334 x 23 millimeters that make it easy to install in tight spaces. The D4K-12SFP Ethernet media module can operate safely in a standard ambient temperature range from 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, and its rated storage temperature range is from -40 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit.  This media module should be kept away from moisture and condensation, but it can tolerate 10 to 95% relative humidity without condensation.
