The Hirschmann BRS42-8TX-EEC switch is a Bobcat series managed Ethernet switch. It supports real-time communication through TSN (time-sensitive networking). Switching features supported by the switch software include independent VLAN, fast aging, Jumbo frames, multiple VLAN registration protocols, and queue-shaping. The supported redundancy protocols include link backup, the media redundancy protocol, and HIPER-ring. The supported security features include MAC-based port security, an integrated authentication server, and RADIUS VLAN assignment. The switch has eight 10/100/1000BASE-TX ports and each of the ports supports the IEEE 802.3at PoE. The maximum PoE power is 240 Watts for the switch. The per-port PoE power is 30 Watts. The physical interface on the switch network ports is an RJ-45 interface.

One USB-C interface is provided on the Hirschmann BRS42-8TX-EEC managed switch and it can be used for local management and configuration. Twisted pair cables measuring up to 100 meters can be used with each of the switch network ports. The switch runs on dual 48 Volts DC rated power supply inputs. The maximum power consumed is 240 Watts when all the switch ports are supplying power over the Ethernet cable. The maximum heat dissipated by the BRS42-8TX-EEC managed switch is 31 BTU per hour. The operating temperature range of the BRS42-8TX-EEC managed switch is from  -40 to 70 degrees Celsius. The storage temperature range is also -40 to 70 degrees Celsius. The recommended range for relative humidity is 1 to 95% without condensation. The housing of the BRS42-8TX-EEC managed switch is made of metal and comes with an IP 30 protection rating.
