The OCTOPUS 8M-8PoE switch is part of the OCTOPUS line of managed Ethernet switches from Hirschmann. It has an environmental protection class rating of IP 67. It contains 8 uplink ports with Fast Ethernet (100MB/s) communication and M12 D-coded 4-pin female connectors that support Power over Ethernet (PoE) connections in accordance with the IEEE 802.3af standard. Due to its sturdy build and high environmental protection rating, this device is well-suited for outdoor applications and it can be used outside of control cabinets. It houses an A-coded 4-pin M12 connector for the V.24 interface that can be used for external management of the device, which allows the users to set up a connection to the Command Line Interface (CLI). The device can also be managed using a web-based interface and HiVision/industrial HiVision network management software. For a user-friendly configuration process, Hirschmann’s HiDiscovery application can be used with this device.
The Hirschmann OCTOPUS 8M-8PoE managed Ethernet switch operates with voltage levels between 46 and 58 Volts DC, it consumes a maximum of 142 Watts of power during normal operation, and has an extended operating temperature range of -40 to 70 degrees Celsius. The switch includes diagnostic features such as the Remote Network Monitoring (RMON), SysLog support, port mirroring, and LED indicators that are used to display the status of the different ports. The OCTOPUS 8M-8PoE switch comes with numerous security features like the SNMPv3, SSHv3, and IEEE 802.1X authentication mechanism. It is a wall-mountable switch that measures 184 millimeters in width, 189 millimeters in height, and 70 millimeters in depth. The device has been approved for applications in transportation and complies with the railway standards EN 50155, EN 45545-2, and EN 50121-4 for railway applications.
