Product Overview:
WS-C3850-24S is part of the Cisco Digital Network Architecture program. It is a next-generation enterprise-level Ethernet and Multigigabit switches system. The switches support IEE802.3 standard, which ensures a stable, and reliable, connection. Lan Base software, specifically created for the Cisco Switches, offer intelligent services and features. This model comes as a standalone and a stackable version.
Power Supply
This Cisco switch uses a default power supply with 350W AC capacity. However, if you need more power, you can install a second redundant power supply since the Switch has 2 slots. WS-C3850-24S also has three replaceable cooling fans to prevent the device from overheating.
Power Capacity
The current model of the switch is not designed to serve as a power supply for other devices. Due to that, the Switch consumes much less power (about a third of the power needed to power the one with PoE technology) and the overall performance is more efficient.
Configurations
WS-C3850-24S comes in two compositions. One is stackable, the other is standalone. Both compositions have 24 SFP Ethernet ports and can be installed into one rack unit (RU). The Switch is provided with one 350Watt AC power supply and an IP Base feature set firmware.
Stacking
The stackable version of the model can be used in Stackwise-480 technology. That is an advanced model of Cisco stacking architecture that allows you to stack a number of single devices to increase the switching capacity of the network. The system uses Cisco IOS Software SSO in order to make the switch stack resilient and enables the choosing of a master-switch, which will control all the other switches in the unit. The resulting bandwidth of the stack can be up to 480 Gbps.
Tech Specs
The Switching capacity of a single WS-C3850-24S is 640 Gbps. The total number of MAC addresses is 32,000. The switch has 4 GB DRAM and 2 GB Flash memory, 4000 VLAN IDs.

All Cisco Catalyst switches are supported by the Smartnet service. The datasheets, manuals and firmware can be found on the Networking Hardware web page. Most of Cisco catalyst products have a one-year warranty on them.
Additional Information
WS-C3850-24S model of the switch has SFP compatibility. You can use 2 optional network Gigabit modules for this device: C3850-NM-4-1G, C3850-NM-2-10G. The end of life (EOL) for this switch has not been announced yet as it is one of the new frontline Cisco designs. The dimensions of the switch are 1.75 x 17.5 x 17.7 inches (4.45 x 44.5 x 45.0 cm) and its weight is 15.5 pounds (7 kilograms).
