Product Review

The Cisco Catalyst WS-C2960X-48LPS-L model switch has a 48 Gigabit-Ethernet ports and it is equipped with 4 SFP modules and a LAN base IOS firmware. The switch supports stackable features using FlexStack. Power over Ethernet (PoE) and Layer 3 routing features are also available in this model. The configuration is fixed on the device.

Power Consumption

The WS-C2960X-48LPS-L model has PoE (IEEE standard 802.3af) capabilities and supports up to 24 PoE ports each with 15.4W. A maximum of 12 PoE+ ports with 30W power. 370W power is available for using PoE technology. PoE technology allows you to reduce the cost for installing new electrical circuits for powering the common LAN devices such as IP phones, WLAN devices (access points) and it uses the Ethernet cables instead to provide electricity to such devices.

Configurations

WS-C2960X-48LPS-L model switch carries a fixed configuration with 48 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces with 4 SFP modules which are used as the uplink interfaces.

Switch Management

The switch can be managed via the regular Command Line Interface (CLI) and also over Bluetooth via a USB dongle connected to the switch. Other Cisco proprietary management solutions such as Cisco Prime can also be purchased and used to easily manage the device.

Stacking

Up to 8 WS-C2960X-48LPS-L switches can be connected via special cables to behave like one single logical switch, thereby reducing the management burden. The Cisco FlexStack enables this feature. The available bandwidth for stacking is 80 Gigabits per second. Extended FlexStack offers stacking of switches in longer distances such as between different floors. Three different lengths of wire are available for stacking such are 3 meters, 1 meter and 0.5 meters)

Layer 3 features

Layer 3 forwarding rate is 107.1 Mpps. IPv4 (OSPF, EIGRP) and IPv6 routing are supported on the switch. First Hop redundancy protocols such as HSRP, can be configured to provide continuous network connectivity during device failovers. Multicast routing is also supported on the device.

QoS

Quality of Service can be implemented in WS-C2960X-48LPS-L for better traffic management and to reduce the loss of high priority packets in the business, such as Voice Traffic. QoS tags can be added to the preferred packets to ensure that such packets are transmitted with priority through the switch.
